Man Who Used To Be Homeless Sets Up Free Portable Sinks To Protect Others In Need.

When he was a teenager, Terence Lester was homeless. So once he was back on his feet as an adult, he started a nonprofit called Love Beyond Walls to help others.

As the world began hunkering down because of COVID-19, Terence thought about the individuals he serves and knew they needed access to sinks so they could wash their hands.

“I started wondering how homeless people would keep their hands clean,” he told a local news station when he heard about the spread of the novel coronavirus. “It’s already difficult.”

That’s when he started reaching out to manufacturers for donations. Within a week, Terence and his team had secured 15 portable handwashing stations, which they distributed around downtown Atlanta.

Grammy-winning artist and Atlanta native Lecrae even showed up to help them accomplish their mission!

Lecrae has known Terence for years and wanted to do his part to keep their community safe. “The city has shown me so much love, so I wanted to be sure to show it back,” he explained.

In addition to distributing several handwashing stations, Lecrae brought food and drinks to hand out. Along with Terence and the Love Beyond Walls volunteers, he also made sure to explain the current pandemic situation since homeless individuals don’t have reliable access to the ever-changing news updates.

This tremendous act of kindness will help so many people in their community stay safe – and prevent the spread of coronavirus! Even better, Terence hopes they will inspire other nonprofits to support their own cities in similar ways.
