Boyfriend Secretly Proposes For Months Before Actually Getting On One Knee.

Just when you thought you’d heard and seen it all when it comes to creative marriage proposals, along comes Edi Okoro to blow them all out of the water.

Edi is a 30-year-old talent agent from Herefordshire, England, who has been dating his girlfriend Cally Read for several years. Earlier this year Edi decided that the time was right to pop the question and make Cally his wife, but as a “spontaneous improvisor” there’s no way he could simply hold out the ring and ask her to say “yes.”

Edi admits that he never plans for even the most important life events, choosing instead to take things as they come and seek out the perfect opportunity as it presents itself. Naturally he decided to apply this philosophy to the all-important proposal, so after he purchased the diamond engagement ring he held off on giving it to Cally.

“Those who have gone through this (and those who will soon find out) you want to propose in a way that speaks to you as a person and couple,” Edi explained on his Facebook page. “Some plan a flash mob, a fancy meal, or even arrange a marry me sign. I couldn’t do this because ‘Edi doesn’t plan”…. I’m a spontaneous improviser!'”

Edi also knew that if he planned a special holiday or meal at their favorite restaurant Cally would quickly figure out what was going on. Instead, he simply carried the ring around with him just in case the perfect proposal opportunity presented itself.

“After a month or so of waiting for the right moment, I was sitting on the sofa admiring ‘my precious’ (yes I became very attached to this ring by this point) Cally almost caught me staring at the ring, and it hit me!…. All these missed opportunities mixed in with the thought – Cally doesn’t know I have the ring!! I should just start documenting these moments!”

Facebook

Edi began snapping a picture whenever and wherever he had the ring with him during their time together. Oblivious, Cally went about her daily routine — eating, sleeping, going for a bike ride, ordering coffee in a store, relaxing at the beach — totally unaware that her boyfriend was offering up a diamond ring behind her back.

As time went by, Edi got even more creative and bold with his proposals, even going so far as to place the ring in his sleeping girlfriend’s palm! At this point Edi admits that he was kind of hoping to get caught.

“The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose!” he wrote. He definitely lived up to his own standards of bravery! How did she not happened to see this?

Facebook

Even more incredibly, he started holding the ring up when Cally didn’t have her glasses on because she “basically can’t see without her glasses… so I took advantage.” He even placed the ring in her jewelry tray for two whole days without her ever catching on!

Facebook

Edi eventually did propose to Cally after about a month of snapping pictures, and unsurprisingly she said yes! Edi then uploaded a full album of pictures to his Facebook page, which quickly went viral because it’s simply too cute and clever for words! The two have now created a Facebook page to document their adventures together, and we can’t wait to hear what Edi comes up with next.

“So we did end up getting engaged, and no I didn’t get caught… but how I did it is a story for another time. We took this photo not long after she said YES….  She didn’t know about this library until several weeks later.”

Now that’s a new approach to proposing! No matter what happens in life, having a good sense of humor can’t help but make things just a little bit sweeter. Wishing Cally and Edi a lifetime of love and laughter!
